A busy summer

This summer has been quite busy around our house.  We have had the construction going on for some time now, and the contractor is just about done with their part of the project.  I think we are going to have a pro put in a wood floor rather than doing that ourselves.  We are beginning to get to the staining and sealing of the windows, and then we can paint rooms.  It almost seems never-ending with all the things that need to be done.

Today the kids and I wrapped up the two weeks of day-camps at church.  We had a great time going to lots of places.  We went to the Minnesota Zoo, the Imax Theater, Chutes and Ladders play area, bowling, and mini-golf.  The kids at these camps also get some good Bible lessons and group fun with their friends.  Kids love these camps every year.  My job consists of driving the bus and keeping the kids safe as we go from place to place.  Our church does such a great job of doing ministry for kids with day camps, vacation Bible school, Sunday school, and lots of other events.

Check out our church website at www.atgrace.com if you haven't already.

A new post

My wonderful wife Krista has informed me that I have not posted in some time and that I should, so here it is.

Electricians are here today to put in outlets and hang fixtures.  We are getting very close to getting to woodwork and painting.  Code requires them to put a smoke detector in every bedroom too so now we will have more protection than I think we need, but it couldnt hurt.

This next week bring more day camps at church which I will drive the bus for.  This week we get to go to the Minnesota Zoo, the Old Log Theater and one other place I cant remember.  The kids always enjoy these weeks.

Attending such a large church can be a lot of fun.  There is always something going on to be involved with and as with any church you have to be careful not to over-schedule.  Abby heads off to camp this Sunday and will be gone through Thursday.  I will drive the bus both days.  I know she looks forward to it, she has always enjoyed camp at Lake Beauty.  She gets to hang with girls her age that she knows from church, and they swim and hike and play games.  She looks forward to the horseback riding every year.  We will miss her and it is weird to have one of my kids gone for that many days.

I guess that is enough for now.  Bye.

More work done

Yesterday we started early in the morning and worked most of the day to get the garage roof stripped off and the new roof installed.  Today Krista and I finished it up by putting on the cap pieces.  Thanks again go to Jay for leading us, and to Scott for helping out.  Thom and Twain came by as well but with my kids and wife gone for the day, couldn't get much involved.  I do thank Thom for the help nonetheless.

This next week will bring the finishing of the drywall, final wiring work, re-installation of our AC, and some other final work on the siding and soffits.

We are debating about what flooring to use in the addition.

I finally got back to church on a Sunday today and sang in the second service in Reunion, a group of people from the choir that sings together in the contemporary service.  It was really good to be back.

Twins game today

This afternoon I went to the Twins game at the Metrodome with Abby and Gabe, and my brother-in-law Scott. The kids had a good time since we had hot dogs, Cracker Jack, and ice cream. We had great seats just 16 rows up from home plate thanks to my wonderful wife who purchased them for Father's Day.

I really enjoyed it because it is great to sit close and hear the ball hitting the catcher's mitt, and really see the reactions.

The Twins did not play well and only managed 5 hits and got shut out 2-0 by the Tigers.

As many of you know, I love baseball and would go to more games if I could, especially if I could sit in great seats like today every time.

Back from a nice weekend away

This past weekend we made our way up to Hayward Wisconsin. It has become a yearly gathering place for a bunch of extended family at the Johnson family cabin. We get included by virtue of my wife's Aunt and Uncle being part of that Johnson clan.

We got to play some golf, watch the kids play in the water, get out in the boat, and eat and drink and relax. All in all it was a nice time and we saw some relatives and got a chance to catch up.

The work on the house continues, and today the insulating crew was here. The addition is really starting to look like a room. Just before the weekend the power company buried our lines and now we have all of our power lines, cable TV lines and phone lines underground. It is great to not have these things hanging across our backyard. We are still waiting for the gable windows to arrive so the final stuff can be done.
